About the role

As the Communications & Community Associate for Store No. 8, you will be working with Walmart Corporate Communications teams and across all portfolio startups. You will need to be high-achieving, quick-learning, detail-oriented, and adaptable to manage both our external and internal communications efforts. You must have a passion for both storytelling and innovation. You will report to the Head of Strategy & Operations and sit on the Store No. 8 core team, which connects the portfolio companies (IRL, Walmart InHome, Jetblack, and Spatial&) and Walmart. This person will create and curate the connective tissue between the core team and the retail innovation world, as well as between the core team and the 1M associates at Walmart. 

What you’ll do

  • Work with core team and portfolio executives to develop and deliver compelling messages related to the perception of Store No. 8
  • Build and roll out communication initiatives (including social media) that relay our key messages and goals both in the retail, tech, and innovation worlds
  • Craft compelling communications for internal use, including emails, newsletters, briefing docs, and presentations
  • Develop creative strategies for communicating to employees across different functions and offices
  • Support large-scale events through communication and promotion
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communications colleagues
  • Coordinate content and speakers for team-wide events of various sizes and audiences

What You’ll Need

  • 2-4 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relation, social media, marketing, or related area
  • Self-starter with analytical skills, able to identify innovative opportunities, assesses viable solutions, and develop and execute complex projects and comprehensive action plans in ambiguity
  • Experience working with, or on, agency teams and managing their output
  • Strong writing and messaging skills – ability to understand the full picture and distill it into simple messaging
  • Ability to create a social media calendar with compelling content, images, and messages
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions to develop, manage and drive communications narratives
  • Comfortable providing guidance and feedback to senior executives
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, adapt quickly and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, technology, and/or retail
  • Aware of what needs doing and keen to make it happen, however big or small
