What you'll do at

The Advanced Analytics Specialist is responsible for conducting data-driven strategic analyses and developing internal decision-making tools/products to enable retail team decision making. Additionally, they will be constantly looking for opportunities to develop machine learning and statistical models to automate business decision making. They will be creating highly impactful solutions to complex problems alongside a talented team in a cross-functional (e.g. product, merchandising, supply chain) environment.

Candidates should have a strong understanding of the fundamentals of data analytics (SQL) and some experience in data science (R or Python) with an interest in developing these skills further. Additionally, they should have the ability to influence key stakeholders in cross functional teams and conceive of and articulate the potential impact of projects for both the customer and the organization.   

Responsibilities

  • Design internal tools that enhance decision making related to assortment performance
    • Think: a product developed for internal use that shows when an item has uncompetitive pricing, poor discoverability, or poor content, such as pictures, descriptions, dimensions, etc.
  • Design workflows that enable teams to action on insights you’ve developed through analyses
    • Think: a process for retail teams to sell through aged inventory that needs to be liquidated
  • Build machine learning models and statistical analyses on diverse data sets to drive and measure performance
  • Create executive level analysis and UI in Tableau or Looker for business performance insights
  • Create strategy, tactics, and tools for retail teams to optimize inventory investment productivity across the organization

[Challenge 2]: Understand the incremental value of adding items (e.g. a new color for an existing model of running shoes) and determine when an additional item option is helpful or detrimental to customer experience +

[Challenge 3]: Working with stakeholders to identify new problems within the business that can be solved

[Challenge 4]: Delivering actionable insights to executive leadership in such areas of the business as profitability, assortment optimization, supply chain, customer acquisition

Qualifications

  • 2-4+ years of experience, or equivalent, for Specialist-level hire
  • 5-6+ years of experience, or equivalent, for Manager-level hire
  • Experience conducting quantitative analysis based on large amounts of data
  • Proficient in SQL, R or Python, and Excel
  • Bachelors Degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Finance, Math/Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or relevant experience

Bonus points for:

  • Masters Degree in Business Analytics, Data Science or Computer Science
  • Experience with large data sets and distributed computing (Hive/Hadoop)
  • Consulting experience
  • eCommerce experience
