As a Merchandise Planning Lead for the Arts, Crafts & Sewing division, you will be responsible for managing inventory, planning and forecasting for a high-growth, complex category– ensuring that assortment, price and availability are a “win-win” for our customers and our business. Creativity and agility will be paramount as you identify retail trends and synthesize information from multiple touch points – providing financial plans and supporting business solutions in a fast-paced, multi-dimensional environment. This role will give you an opportunity to manage a number of diverse businesses, from crayons and kids crafts to fabric and sewing machines. Your responsibility will be broad as you would be supporting a team of category managers & specialists, reporting to the category’s General Manager.

Position Description:

  • Maintains and executes financial plans and open-to-buy (OTB) forecasts
  • Reviews vendor/seller forecasts to ensure alignment to strategy
  • Provides input into category financial plans and budgets (e.g., for sales, margins, 3P revenue) in collaboration with category managers and category GM
  • Reviews sales and profit forecasts against actual results to ensure key financial metrics on the category P&L are met.
  • Models, analyzes and evaluates impact of key variables on category performance. Provides input into models, analysis, and evaluation of the impact of key variables (e.g., shipping promotions, rollbacks, seasonal campaigns) on category performance.
  • Oversees the placement and validation of orders, collaborating with Supply Chain team to maintain healthy in-stock rates
  • Reports to and works closely with category managers and the General Manager to drive high level business strategy and complete analyses to identify opportunities in the business
  • Supports the continuous development and implementation of core team strategies by putting together and presenting relevant data
  • Oversees the placement and validation of orders, collaborating with Supply Chain team to maintain healthy in-stock rates
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in finance, inventory replenishment, category management, site merchandising, pricing or related area
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a retail environment preferred
  • Previous E-commerce Planning experience a plus
  • Strong quantitative skills and ability to quickly learn new data systems and processes
  • High level of attention to detail paired with an ability to think big-picture and operate strategically
  • Interpersonal skills and experience working in a collaborative environment; able to work effectively both with junior colleagues and senior leaders/ managers
  • Able to multi-task and meet deadlines. During the November/ December timeframe, planners should be occasionally available nights and weekends to drive holiday sales
