Sr. Director, Merchandising - Exclusive Fashion Brands (Private Label)

This individual will be responsible for building and owning the strategy, development and execution behind Walmart eCommerce’s exclusive fashion brands.

Key responsibilities include defining the overall brand portfolio strategy, managing a team of brand merchants who own each brand holistically across all relevant categories and attributes including assortment, brand positioning and item pricing, driving the financial health of the brand portfolio, partnering with marketing to grow awareness and drive demand for the new brands, and guiding all products from design to development to delivery. We are looking for a strategic, innovative, and resourceful team leader with a fantastic eye for product to drive our exclusive brand strategy to the next level.

Position Description

  • Take end-to-end ownership over Walmart eCommerce’s new exclusive fashion brands, including:
    • Determining the positioning and assortment of each brand
    • Developing and owning sales targets and growth plans for the business
    • Executing against these strategies to build a successful and accretive business
  • Identify and capitalize on brand and product opportunities to grow portfolio strategically over time
  • Manage P&L across entire brand portfolio, including KPIs of net revenue, gross margin and contribution profit
  • Regularly meet with brand and design partners to develop and refine assortment line plans
  • Lead a team of brand managers responsible for managing manufacturing partners to deliver product seasonally, on-time and on-budget
  • Partner with fashion planning team to determine seasonal open-to-buy and investment and manage in-season markdowns and sell-through
  • Partner with marketing to define brand marketing campaigns to drive growth and awareness
  • Partner with fashion site experience and editorial teams to build online branded experiences and incorporate products into key seasonal campaigns
  • Ensure successful online seasonal launches, including product content and listing integrity
  • Refine future assortment strategies and identify opportunities for brand and category extensions, incorporating consumer research, customer feedback and historical sales performance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Product Development, Design, or related field and 10+ years of experience in product merchandising for a fashion brand

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Product Development, Design, or related field and 10+ years of experience in product merchandising for a fashion brand
  • At least 7 years of experience in one or more of the following functions: brand management, product merchandising, or product development within a Fashion category
  • Experience with team leadership and cross-functional project management and supervision
  • Fluency in retail financial metrics (for example, gross margin, cost components, sell-through)
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite (for example, Excel, PowerPoint) and creative based design software (for example, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • An eye for great-looking, on-trend, commercial fashion product
  • Experience managing and marketing an online brand, a plus
